De-Stress for Creative Success

Looking for ways to take your company to the next level and stand apart from the competition?  In the ever-changing marketplace this takes much innovation and creativity, but how are we supposed to get creative in the stress and rush of day-to-day tasks?

We believe that your workspace is the place to start.  Whether you are in a corner office, a cubicle, or working from home, these five easy tips will help you to de-stress your space and make your workplace an inspiring place to be.

1. De-clutter
Creativity wont’ be able to find you in the middle of the mess, so take time to simplify your space.  Clutter is a known factor for adding stress, and it will hinder both your productive and creative potential.

  • Take time to assess what can go and then recycle or trash it.  Take a minute to store the items you don’t use on a daily basis.
  • Cut down on paper usage when possible.  Get comfortable with digital file storage and your desk will de-clutter before your eyes.
  • Go to the experts of organization—The Container Store—and pick up items that you need to store your things.
  • Once you have de-cluttered your office space, commit to organizing as you go so you can continue to benefit from your efforts.

2. Bring in a Plant
Time spent in nature is a great way to de-stress, but unfortunately many of us find ourselves in an indoor workspace.  Adding plants to your workspace is a simple and affordable way to bring nature to you.  Plants are great company as they have been proven to reduce stress and refresh the environment through oxygen-production—all you have to do is give them a little TLC in return!  When selecting a plant make sure to steer clear of the plastic plants, only the real ones offer these great benefits!

3. Tune In
There are certain tasks in everyone’s job where a little background music could bring the inspiration and fun they need.  Classical music is a proven de-stressor and will be sure to put you at ease.  Feeling like something more upbeat?  Pandora is one of our favorite tools.  We set the station based on our current mood (or perhaps our desired mood!), and it selects a great playlist every time!

4. Personalize Your Space
Adding a personal touch to your office will help make it a place you want to work.  If you are having a stressful day, a sip from the coffee mug your daughter made or a glance at your calendar with pictures of family and friends will instantly lift your spirits.  These touches throughout your day will remind you of all the good in your life.  In addition, add a splash of your favorite color to the walls, a colorful and creative print from your favorite artist, or a quote that inspires you, and you will immediately begin to feel yourself unwind.

5. Get a Little Feng Shui in Your Life

Totally agree with the positive changes that can come from an office makeover. I do an office makeover every year and its such an energy booster! I’ll be posting about it soon- I just finished my 2012 office makeover last week.
